personal: welcome to my world
i just want to take a moment to give mad props to all the mommas of the world. it is hard work being a good mommy!
making the switch from no kids to one kid was no big deal. eliza was a super easy baby. this time around is a different story...taking care of a 5 year old that is home for the summer, figuring out how to deal with a baby with colic and reflux, and working from home is a bit of a challenge.
here is a snapshot of my day...eliza got into my makeup while i was feeding ryder. ryder is a sweet little thing when he is not crying (which is not often). dealing with ryder's colic and reflux is one of the biggest challenges i have ever faced as a parent. it is a horrible feeling to be so helpless when your little baby is screaming their head off. i just keep telling myself that it could be worse. luckily he is healthy and he will grow out of this (sooner than later, we hope!).

gotta go ryder is calling. : )

How fun to have a snapshot of your life right now to look back on in the future! And absolutely love the make-up! Suggestion for the reflux...check out some research on chiropracitc care for reflux and colic...I've read some great articles that it can definitely help your little guy and my chiropractor swears he's seen improvement in babies with reflux! Just a suggestion! :) Congrats on your new baby! :)
Congrats on your new baby!! I have been following your blog for a while now and seriously, you guys are such an inspiration. BUT....the point for my post is to direct you to a post I made on my blog a while back. Both my kids had reflux like crazy and we had great luck having it cured with chiropractic care. Sounds weird, but it so works! Check out my post to know more. I hope your little man feels better soon!

have you tried the wedge for his crib? Apparently it helps with reflux. Don't have any kids of my own yet, but my friend tried it and it worked for her little one.
Good luck!
Well, good for you for taking time to snap this picture! It is perfect and you'll be so happy to have it in the future! And even though he is crying he is so cute it's crazy! One thing that I just learned about and it seems to work wonders with colic is Gripe Water. You can get it at Target made by Little Tummies or from a health store and it actually helps more than just colic if you get it from there.... good luck!

Hi - congrats! I have been following your blog for awhile, but have not commented (sorry!). I have a 4 yr. old little girl who, like you said Eliza was, was an amazingly easy baby. I had a baby boy last September who has reflux and I remember very well being where it sounds like you are living. I just want to encourage you it does get better. My son had a ROUGH first 2-3 months, but he has grown into the happiest 10 month-old around. Putting him on his stomach with his knees up under him helped him some in those early days, but it didn't really improve until he could start solids. Hang in there! And thanks for your beautiful photography - I LOVE seeing a new post from ya'll.
Try running the vacuum cleaner around Ryder. My sister's son had colic and the noise the vacuum cleaner made kept him from crying.
Congratulations!
Been there and I'm in the middle of it again. I have 4 kids home and am working from home right now, including a 2 month old and an extremely active 3 year old. Not sure how I get through the day without going crazy! ;-) My 3 year old had such severe reflux she had to be put on Zantac- it gave her minty fresh breath, but helped a good bit! The 2 month old has it as well, but not near as bad. Our pediatrician had me add a little cereal in her bottle just to thicken it a bit (not a lot!). This helps her food stay down much better and helps her tummy feel better. Hadn't heard of the chiropactic help. Wish I had!
All that to say, you're not alone and it will get better!
you're a terrific mommy, sarah! ryder will grow out of this phase and will soon be helping eliza through the all the makeup bags and mischievous games. ah, such is life!
have you heard of gripe water? saw, my youngest, had colic, too. and gripe water tended to work really well for him. my local pharmacy had to order it for me, but i've seen it at walgreens lately.
i hope it gets better! all my buddies with one kid always want to go to the park and play, and boy is that a pain when you have one child that chases their older brother and does everything he does even though he's only 18 months old!
saying a prayer for you now!
I had 2 colicky babies. I tried everything out there. The only thing that seemed to work was Alimentum formula. Expensive but worth every penny.
awww. sara. i had colic. i was one of the ones that like car rides, or sleeping on the running washer. you could maybe try that :-/
If its any consolation, our oldest screamed for the his first three months, but is now the sweetest, gentlest little guy. It's our youngest who was the most placid baby, who's still making up for it! (Love yours and Mel's work)
Oh Sara, I'm so sorry that Ryder is having a difficult beginning, but he will grow out of it!! Remember - this too shall pass!! It all passes too fast!! I think Eliza looks fabulous with all her makeup!!
I'm so sorry to hear that you are having a hard time lately! Sounds like you have gotten some good advice here- hopefully you (and Ryder!) will get some relief!!
Oh! I feel for you Sara, but it will get better. All of these loving comments from moms with lots of experience -- what a blessing! I had Lila right in the middle of wedding season in '07, and Joaquin was only 15 months old when she was born. It was a hard year, but it has gotten MUCH easier. Anyway, just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you, and the photo of the two of them is wonderful!!!
Yep I sure know how that feels some days . . .
I vote for the chiropractor too. My mom is a chiropractor and my kids were adjusted a couple of times when they were very young. I think it helped alot with them being good babies. I love that it is natural and you don't have to give them Rx. There's a gaget called an activator that they use on babies, pregnant women and elderly and it is very gentle. Good Luck it does pass
Hang in there, Sara. My mom said I was a colicky baby...and look how I turned out?!?!? ;) I'll say a special prayer for you tonight. xoxo, Cin
Hi Sara, love reading your blog, love photos of screaming babies! I can't help but photograph my two (now 3 and 5) when they're crying or fighting or sick. Of course I like the happy photos too. Anyway just to let you know you're not alone in the photographer/mummy struggle... but it WILL get easier as he gets past the baby stage.
